Sew!
1 Referring to Diagram I-A, fold gold 2" x 2 1/4" rectangle in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch on long side to form tube. Press seam open. Turn tube inside out, center seam on back, and press. Using large basting stitch, sew across ends of tube. Gather to 1/2" width and fold tube in half. With raw edges aligned, center and pin to gold 1" x 2 1/4" strip. Baste in place. In same manner, and using matching fabrics, prepare second half of bow. Sew matching bow halves to sides of matching 1" square (Diagram I-B) to make bow strip. Make 9 total.
2 Referring to Diagram II, sew 4 matching red 2 1/4" squares, 2 gold 1" x 2 1/4" strips, and matching bow strip together to make Gift Block. Note: Take care to keep the bow from being stitched into block seams. Make 9 total in colors and quantities shown.
3 Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps. Stitch 3 blocks and 2 cream 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" strips together to make block row. Make 3. Sew block rows and cream 14 1/2" sashing strips together, alternating.
4 Stitch cream 18" strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom. Stitch remaining cream strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch black/gold dot 19" strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining black strips to top/bottom; trim even. Stitch red/black plaid 23" strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining plaid strips to top/bottom; trim even.
5 Layer, baste, and quilt. The feature quilt was quilted in an allover meander. Bind with black/gold dot. Tack ends of bows in place. |
