Step 3. Stitch pieced triangles to sides of cream large floral 11 5/8" square (Diagram III) to make Soft ‘n Sweet Block. Make 1.

Step 4. To make stems, fold green bias-cut strips in half, wrong sides together (Diagram IV). Stitch 1/4" from raw edge. Trim seam allowance to 1/8". Press tube flat, centering seam allowance on back so raw edge isn't visible from front. Using 1/2" bias bar makes pressing faster and easier. Make 2 total.

Step 5. Trace Templates A-C on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn lines.
Step 6. Using seam lines of block as placement guide and referring to Diagram V, position stems. Appliqué in place by machine or hand using buttonhole stitch (Diagram VI). Position template fabrics. Following manufacturers instructions, fuse templates in place. Appliqué template edges. Stitch red/burgundy 2 1/2" x 18" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides to make pieced pillow top.

Step 7. To quilt the pillow top, center pieced top (right side up) on batting and muslin 23" squares. Ann machine ditch quilted the seams and appliqué. She added concentric lines within the flower shapes and wavy lines on the borders.
Step 8. Turn longer raw edge of 15" x 20 1/4" pillow backing rectangle under 1/2" twice and sew close to fold line. Repeat on second backing rectangle. Layer quilted top and 2 backing rectangles (hemmed edges overlapping towards center), right sides together (Diagram VII). Using 1/4" seam allowance, sew around outside edge. Turn right side out through back opening and press. Insert pillow form.
