Plan
The center of Jereé's appealing fall quilt was made with Serendipity 5" charm square packs by Sandy Gervais for Moda. Before you start to sew, divide your charm squares into color families (tans, browns, greens, rusts, and purples). Make and trim pieced squares as shown in Diagram I, then trim all remaining charm squares to 4 1/2" before arranging and sewing the blocks.

Tan large floral
... 4 strips 10" x 80", cut on lengthwise grain

Sew
Step 1.
Draw diagonal line on wrong side of assorted tan 5" charm square. Referring to Diagram I-A, place marked square on assorted brown 5" charm square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make tan/brown pieced squares. Make 24 sets of 2 matching. In same manner, make assorted/green and tan/rust pieced squares in quantities shown. Keeping seam line centered on the diagonal, trim pieced squares to 4 1/2" (Diagram I-B).

Step 2. Use 4 assorted rust and 2 assorted purple 4 1/2" squares, 4 sets of 2 matching tan/brown pieced squares, and 1 set of 2 matching assorted/green pieced squares to sew 4 rows of 4 squares each (Diagram II-A). Sew rows together to make Star Block with brown points. Make 6 total. In same manner, use 4 assorted brown and 2 assorted purple 4 1/2" squares, 4 sets of 2 matching tan/rust pieced squares, and 1 set of 2 matching assorted/green pieced squares to make 6 total Star Blocks with rust points, watching placement and orientation of center squares (Diagram II-B).
