Sew
1. Trace Templates A-I on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn lines.

2. Finger-press yellow 10" square in half diagonally twice. Referring to Diagram I-A and photo, and using fold lines as placement guide, position templates. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse in place. Linda used machine zigzag stitch (Diagram I-B) to finish the edge of the appliqués, using thread to match appliqué colors. She used black thread and a satin stitch (Diagram I-C) to add teeth and the bird's legs. Cut black rickrack into 6 strips 3 1/2" long. Zigzag stitch rickrack in place for cat's whiskers (see Template A for placement).

3. Sew white/black dot and black/white dot quarter-square triangles together to make pieced triangle (Diagram II-A). Make 2 of each arrangement.
4. Referring to Diagram II-B, sew pieced triangles to sides of appliquéd square, centering. Note: Triangles are cut oversized. This allows the appliqué square to “float" in the setting. Trim pillow top to 14 1/2" square. Tack on the black button for bird's eye (see Template H for placement).

5. Layer pillow top on the black/white dot 14 1/2" square, right sides together. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew around the outside edges, leaving an 8" opening on one side (Diagram III). Trim corners and turn pillow covering right side out. Insert pillow form and hand stitch opening closed.
