plan
Just right for napping on the couch, this bold and cheery quilt is a wonderful stash buster. Joyce chose to use a different bright fabric for every square and appliqué; do likewise if you wish.
To save time when cutting 3 1/4" squares for applique, prepare fabrics with fusible web prior to cutting. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse paper-backed fusible web to wrong side of appropriate fabrics. Cut 7 total prepared squares.

sew
Trace Template A circles on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn line. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of assorted bright fabrics; cut out on drawn lines.

Finger-press 16 total black 6 1/2" squares and 7 total bright 6 1/2" squares in half on both length and width; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram I, and following manufacturer's instructions, center circle and square appliqués and fuse in place to make blocks. Make in quantities shown.

Using machine fly stitch, buttonhole stitch, or satin stitch, edge-stitch appliques (Diagram II).
Referring to Assembly Diagram and photo, sew 15 rows of 9 squares/blocks each, watching positioning of blocks. Stitch rows together.

Layer, baste, and quilt. Virginia machine quilted an allover star and heart meander in the quilt center and spirals in the white squares. The center white square on each side and the white corner squares feature a star in the center of the quilted spiral.
To make pieced binding, cut black 2 1/2" x WOF strips into random lengths from 7" to 12 1/2". Referring to Diagram III, stitch strips together, end to end, until length totals approximately 300".Bind quilt with pieced strip.
