Step 1. Referring to Diagrams I and II, make 6 total blocks, 3 of each arrangement.

Step 2. Sew 2 rows of 3 blocks each, rotating as shown in Assembly Diagram. Sew rows together. Stitch dark blue strips to top and bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch remaining strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom.

Step 3. Trace Templates A-D on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn lines. Referring to photo, position template fabrics. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse in place. Machine or hand buttonhole stitch (Diagram III) around appliqué.

Step 4. Layer, baste, and quilt. Marianne’s quilt was machine quilted in an allover meander, and detail lines were added to the leaf and flower appliqués. Bind with dark blue fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
