Sunbonnet Sue - Page 2

Step 1. Trace each template on paper side of paper-backed fusible web 9 times. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn line. Following manufacturer's instructions, apply to wrong side of assorted pastel prints and pink solid. Cut out. Referring to Diagram I, position templates on 11 1/2" x 16 1/2" muslin rectangles in alphabetical order. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to rectangle. To complete Sunbonnet Sue Block, machine or hand buttonhole stitch around shapes. Make 9 blocks.

Step 2. Referring to Assembly Diagram, sew 3 horizontal rows using Sunbonnet Sue Blocks and 1 3/4" x 16 1/2" pink print strips. Using 1 3/4" muslin squares and 1 3/4" x 11 1/2" pink print strips sew 4 sashing rows. Sew rows together. Sew 5 1/4" x 57" pastel plaid pastel strip to sides of quilt. Trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining plaid pastel strips to top and bottom of quilt. Trim even with sides.

Step 3. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Quilt as desired. Bind with muslin (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
