Step 1. Trace Templates A-K on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn line. Finger-press ivory 7 1/2" x 9 1/2"rectangle in half on both length and width; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram I and photo, position template fabrics in alphabetical order. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse in place. If desired, appliqué edges by hand or machine using buttonhole stitch (see Diagram II), or machine appliqué edges when quilting as Michele did (see Step 4). Make 3 Sunbonnet Sue Garden Blocks (2 facing right and 1 facing left).

Step 2. Referring to Assembly Diagram, stitch vertical row alternating 3 Sunbonnet Sue Garden Blocks and two 1 1/2" x 7 1/2" dark rose strips. Stitch 1 1/2" x 32" dark rose strips to sides of quilt; trim even with top and bottom. Sew ivory 1 1/2" squares to ends of remaining rose 1 1/2" x 7 1/2" strips. Stitch pieced strips to top and bottom of quilt.
Step 3. Sew large floral 2" x WOF strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining large floral strips to top and bottom; trim even with sides.
Step 4. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Michele outline quilted the dark rose sashing and border strips by hand. She machine quilted in the ditch around each block and between the 2 borders. To finish the edges of the appliqué pieces and quilt them at the same time, Michele machine satin stitched (see Diagram III to satin stitch by hand) around each with coordinating thread. Hint: Use rayon thread in needle and cotton thread in bobbin. Using pink thread, she machine satin stitched detail on bonnet, and with yellow embroidery floss, she hand stitched the sun's rays using a single stitch for each ray. Bind quilt with light blue fabric (Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).

Step 5. To make yo-yo, fold under 1/8" on outer edge of light rose Template L fabric and hand sew a gathering stitch as shown in Diagram IV-A. Pull end of thread to gather circle into yo-yo (see Diagram IV-B) and knot off to secure. Make 3. Position yo-yo on stem. Center 1/2" button on yo-yo and stitch through all layers to secure to quilt. Repeat on remaining blocks. To complete wall hanging, sew 5/8" buttons to ivory sashing squares.
