Step 2. In same manner, use green/ yellow print 10 7/8" squares with assorted dark green print 10 7/8" squares to make 24 total large pieced squares for border (see Diagram I-B). Sew together 2 matching large pieced squares as shown in Diagram I-C. Make 12 total and set aside.

Step 3. Referring to Diagram II, sew together 1 green/yellow print and 3 assorted ivory print 9 1/4" quarter-square triangles to make Hour Glass Block. Make 4.

Step 4. Trace Templates A-C on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn lines.
Step 5. Finger-press assorted beige print 8 1/2" square on both length and width; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram III, position Template A fabric. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse in place. Appliqué edges by hand or machine using buttonhole stitch (see Diagram IV) to complete Heart Block. Make 25 total.

Step 6. Referring to Assembly Diagram, carefully arrange and stitch 7 rows of 7 blocks each. Sew rows together. Position prepared Template B and C fabrics on quilt top. Fuse in place and buttonhole stitch edges. To complete butterflies, add antennae using stem stitch (see Diagram V) with green embroidery floss.

Step 7. Stitch medium pink print 2 1/2" x 62" strips to sides of quilt top; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch remaining medium pink print strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. To make border strips, arrange and stitch 4 strips of 3 pieced rectangles each. Sew 2 to sides of quilt. Stitch green/yellow print 10 1/2" squares to ends of remaining strips; sew to top/ bottom.
Step 8. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Selecting threads to coordinate with fabrics, Pat machine quilted. She used a meandering heart/curlicue design on the ivory and beige fabrics. Each appliqué fabric is outlined inside and outside. The green/yellow portion of each block features a quarter sun ray motif. The inner border is outline quilted and the triangles in the outer border are echo quilted. Bind quilt with green/yellow print fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
