Plan!
Spring floral fabrics from RJR are featured in this easy quilt design. The block centers are simply a square in a square. We instruct you to piece them following Debbie's preferred method (Diagram I). This method uses a little extra fabric, but the increased accuracy is worth it!

Sew!
Step 1. Draw diagonal line on wrong side of green texture 2 3/4" squares with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram I, place green square on light green small floral 5" square, right sides together, aligning raw edges. Stitch on drawn line; trim away and discard excess fabric. Press open. Repeat process on remaining corners as shown. Make 24 green pieced squares, 12 purple/lavender, and 12 pink.

Diagram I
Step 2. Sew beige texture and green texture 4 1/2" quarter-square triangles together to make pieced triangle (Diagram II). Make 96. In same manner, use remaining 4 1/2" quarter-square triangles to make 48 beige/purple and 48 beige/pink pieced triangles.
Step 3. Make 192 beige/yellow pieced triangles using 5 3/4" quarter-square triangles (Diagram III).

Step 4. To make Windblown Petal Block, sew matching pieced triangles to opposite sides of pieced square (Diagram IV). Add matching pieced triangles to remaining sides. In same manner, sew beige/yellow triangles to corners. Make 48 total blocks.

Step 5. Referring to Assembly Diagram, carefully arrange and sew 8 rows of 6 blocks each. Sew rows together. Stitch beige 2 3/4" x 76" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch remaining beige strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides.
Step 6. Sew pink 2" x 80" strips to sides; trim even. Sew remaining pink strips to top/bottom; trim even. Stitch purple/green large floral 5" x 84" strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining purple/green large floral strips to top/bottom; trim even. Sew green 5 1/2" x 92" strips to sides; trim even. Sew remaining green strips to top/bottom; trim even.

Step 7. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Paula machine quilted. She stipple quilted the block centers, beige triangles, beige border, and floral border. The remaining triangles feature pumpkin seed curves. A continuous small leaf design appears in the pink border, and a continuous large leaf design is quilted in the green border. Bind quilt with purple texture fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals). |
