Planning
Michele mitered the corners of the pieced border, but we instruct you to use butted borders. If you choose to miter the corners, add extra length to the 4 3/4"-wide strips on ends of all four pieced border strips. Use a design wall or large flat surface to plan your quilt top design, arranging the blocks and bow tie rectangles to create a gradation of colors as Michele did. We provide templates and instructions for making the scalloped border, however a straight-edge border would also look lovely. (Download Scallop Border Template Diagrams - PDF file)
