Step 1. Cut white 4 1/8" x 8 1/8" rectangle in half diagonally twice as shown in Diagram I-A. Discard the end triangles. In same manner, cut assorted yellow, purple, blue, pink, and green 3 7/8" x 7 5/8" rectangles. Discard the side triangles (see Diagram I-B).
Step 2. Refer to the special instructions, Piecing the Bow Tie Rectangles and make Bow Tie Rectangles in quantities indicated in Diagram II.

A Quick Lesson

Piecing the Bow Tie Rectangles
Because it can be a little tricky to figure out just how to line up the triangles before you stitch them together, here is a quick lesson with detailed diagrams to help! Stitch practice Bow Tie Rectangles to get comfortable with piecing these triangles together.

1. Cut rectangles to make triangles (see Step 1 and Diagrams I-A and B). Referring to Diagram I, position yellow print triangle on white triangle, right sides together, aligning raw edges. Adjust yellow triangle so that corners extend as illustrated in diagram. Stitch together and press open to make pieced triangle. Repeat process to make an identical pieced triangle.
2. Place matching pieced triangles with right sides together and raw edges aligned (see Diagram II); stitch together. Placement hints: Corners should extend an equal amount on each end. Intersection of center seams should be 1/4" from raw edge.

Step 3. Stitch white and yellow 7 1/4" quarter-square triangles together as shown in Diagram III-A to make pieced triangle. Make 4. In same manner, use purple, blue, pink, and green 7 1/4" quarter-square triangles with white quarter-square triangles to make quantities indicated.

Step 4. Sew matching pieced triangles together to make Hour Glass Block (see Diagram III-B). Make quantities indicated.
