Step 5. Referring to Assembly Diagram, carefully arrange and stitch 6 sashing rows using 5 white 3 1/2" squares and 4 Bow Tie Rectangles each. Arrange and stitch 5 block rows using 5 Bow Tie Rectangles and 4 Hour Glass Blocks (rotate to match design) each. Alternating sashing and block rows, sew rows together.

Step 6. To make pieced strip for side border, arrange and sew together three 4 3/4" x 9 1/2" strips and two 4 3/4" x 11" strips as shown in Assembly Diagram. Make 2 and sew to sides of quilt top. Arrange and sew 2 strips using two 4 3/4" x 9 1/2" strips and two 4 3/4" x 15 1/4" strips each; sew to top and bottom.
Step 7. With marking tool of your choice, Side Scallop Template, and Corner Scallop Template, mark binding placement line along pieced border raw edges, adjusting scallops as necessary to meet corners evenly.
Step 8. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals). Michele machine quilted a wavy curve design over the quilt top.
Step 9. Prepare approximately 6 1/2 yds. of bias-cut gold mottle binding (see "To make continuous bias" in Quiltmaking Fundamentals and begin with a 30" square). With right sides together, pin raw edge of binding to placement line and stitch (see Diagram IV). Ease rather than stretch along outer curves. Take care not to cause pleat in binding at point where scallops meet. Trim quilt top, batting, and backing even with raw edge of binding. Turn binding to quilt back and stitch.
