30s Something

Plan!
Rhoda used an assortment of 1930s prints, manufactured by RJR Fabrics, for her quilt. The yellow texture and purple small floral border yardages are sufficient for cutting a set of basket fabrics from each in case you wish to use these fabrics for two baskets, as Rhoda did.

If you use a controlled number of assorted prints, you may wish to construct the nine-patches from strip sets. To do so, cut 1 1/2" strips and cut the segments 1 1/2" wide.

You Need:
Assorted prints (9-patches, baskets) ... 1 1/4 - 2 yds. total
White-on-white print (background) ... 2 3/8 yds.
Yellow texture (inner border) ... 1/2 yd.
Purple small floral (outer border, binding) ... 1 3/4 yds.
Backing (piece widthwise) ... 3 1/4 yds.
Batting ... Twin size
Paper-backed fusible web ... 1/4 yd.
Sewing thread
Monofilament thread
Rotary cutter
Acrylic rotary-cutting ruler, 6" x 24"
Machine quilting thread
