2. Finger-press cream/yellow print 9 1/2" square in half lengthwise and crosswise; use folds as placement guide. Position fabrics in alphabetical order on background square (see Diagram I). Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse in place. Appliqué edges using hand buttonhole stitch (Diagram II) or by machine. Make 12 Basket Blocks. 3. Referring to Diagrams III-A, B and C, sew red and cream/yellow 1 1/2" x WOF strips together to make quantities of strip sets indicated. Press in direction of arrows. From strip sets III-A and B, cut segments 1 1/2" wide, in quantities shown for each strip set. From strip set III-C, cut 31 segments 9 1/2" each and set aside for sashing. 4. Stitch together three 1 1/2" strip segments to make Nine-patch Block (Diagram IV). Make 20. 5. Referring to Assembly Diagram and photo, arrange and sew 5 sashing rows using 4 Nine-patch Blocks and 3 sashing strips each. To make 4 block rows, sew 3 Basket Blocks alternating with 4 sashing strips each. Alternating block rows with sashing rows, sew rows together. 6. Sew 4 1/4" x 55" navy/red floral print strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch remaining navy/red strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. 7. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Nancy machine ditch quilted the appliqué and sashing strips. She added a continuous line scroll design on the border. Bind quilt with green stripe fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
