Sew
Step 1. Draw diagonal line on wrong side of green 6 1/2" square with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram I-A, place green square on cream 8 1/2" square, right sides together, aligning raw edges. Stitch on drawn line; trim away and discard excess fabric. Press open. Repeat process on same corner, using cream 3 1/2" square (Diagram I-B), to make pieced corner square. Make 4.

Step 2. Sew cream and green strips together to make 6 pieced side squares (Diagram II).

Step 3. Referring to Assembly Diagram, sew 4 rows of 3 squares each. Sew rows together. Measure exact width of quilt through center (from raw edge to raw edge). Trim 2 blue/red floral strips to this measurement and sew red/white dot squares to ends. Stitch untrimmed floral strips to sides of quilt; trim even with top and bottom. Sew pieced strips to top/bottom.

Step 4. Trace Templates A-W on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn lines.
Step 5. Using seam lines as placement guides, refer to Diagram III and photo and position template fabrics on quilt top. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse in place. Buttonhole stitch edges (Diagram IV). Using black embroidery floss, make French knots for eyes and ladybug black dots (Diagram V), and embroider ladybug wing lines and butterfly antennae in stem stitch (Diagram VI).

Step 6. Layer, baste, and quilt. The featured quilt was machine quilted in an allover meander. Bind with green fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
