3. Arrange and sew 2 rows using 2 matching pieced squares, medium blue texture 6 1/2" square, and assorted bright matching 6 1/2" square. Sew rows together to make Fish Block (see Diagram III). Make 5 total.

4. Using 2 matching assorted bright 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips, 2 matching bright 2 1/2" squares, and 1 bright 2 1/2" square, arrange and sew pieced square (see Diagram III). Make 4 total. Set aside for border corners.

5. Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram and photo for following steps. The setting triangles on all edges and corners are cut oversized to allow trimming quilt edges even after assembly. Arrange and stitch 3 diagonal rows using Fish Blocks and 19 1/2" quarter-square triangles. Sew rows together. Stitch medium blue 10" half-square triangles to corners. Trim quilt top to 34 1/2" x 34 1/2". Sew medium blue 6 1/2" x 34 1/2" strip to left side.
6. Arrange and sew together 17 assorted bright 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips to make side border. Make 2 total and sew to sides of quilt. In same manner, stitch together 20 bright 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips. Sew Border Corner Blocks to ends. Make 2 and sew to top and bottom of quilt.

7. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Barbara quilted waves in the background, scales on the fish, and continued the wavy pattern in the border. Bind quilt with dark blue mottle fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
