3. Stitch assorted red texture 2 7/8" half-square triangles to sides of assorted green texture 3 3/8" square (Diagram III) to make pieced square-on-point square. Make 20 total.

4. Arrange and sew 3 rows using 4 pieced triangle squares, 4 pieced rectangle squares, and 1 pieced square-on-point square (Diagram IV). Sew rows together to make Illinois Block. Make 20 total.

5. Referring to Assembly Diagram, arrange and sew 5 rows of 4 blocks each. Sew rows together. Sew red print 1 1/2" x 64" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch remaining red print strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Sew cream/red/green floral 4 1/2" x 65" strips to sides, trim even. Sew remaining cream/red/ green floral strips to top/bottom; trim even.

6. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Pat machine quilted a meander on the white prints and outer border. She outline stitched the red prints and placed a star in the center of each block. The remainder of the blocks and border are ditch quilted. Bind quilt with red mottle fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
