You Need:
For 1 Penny Rug & 6 Ornaments
Black wool (background) 12" x 19" piece
Gold wool 5" x 17" piece
Red wool and green wool 8" x 9" piece each
Red baby rickrack, 3/4 yd.
#8 perle cotton, gold, green, red, black
3/4" black buttons, 6
Plan!
The given yardage will allow you to make one set of ornaments and a penny rug. Pat used Moda wool for her matching set and did not use lining since the wool is very thick.
The ornaments could be cute gift tags and the penny rug is extra useful since it's not too seasonal in design.
Cut!
Black wool
... 1 circle, 9" diameter (penny rug background)
... 6 Template A (ornament background)
Gold, red, and green wool

Templates per given design
Sew!
1. Arrange wool appliqué templates on penny rug background circle (see Placement Guide) or ornament Template A wool. Secure with buttonhole stitch by hand (Diagram I) using #8 perle cotton.
2. All circular design elements are tacked in place with 4 stitches across the diameter of the circle (Diagram II).
3. To make hangers for the ornaments, tack 4" loop of red baby rickrack to top of each ornament. Sew black 3/4" button to cover rickrack raw edges.
