3. To make side setting triangles, make strip set (Diagram II-A). Press in direction of arrows. Cut 2 segments 18 1/4" wide. Cut segments in half twice diagonally (Diagram II-B). In same manner, make top/ bottom setting triangles by sewing strips together (Diagram III-A). Press, cut 18 1/4" segment, and cut segment into triangles (Diagram III-B).

4. Sew rectangles together as shown in Diagram IV-A. Cut in half diagonally (Diagram IV-B).

5. Referring to Assembly Diagram, stitch 8 diagonal rows using cream quarter-square triangles and squares, pieced setting triangles, and blocks, watching placement and orientation. Stitch rows together. Sew corner setting triangles to corners.
6. Sew dark green print 1 1/2" x 90" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining dark green strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. To apply striped border, see How To Add Mitered Borders.

7. Layer, baste, and quilt. The feature quilt was machine quilted in the ditch around the inner border. The remainder of the quilt was stitched with a large meander. Bind with dark green fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).

How To Add Mitered Borders
1. Center and pin striped 6" x 104" strips to sides and 6" x 86" strips to top/bottom (strips will extend beyond quilt top). Starting and stopping 1/4" from quilt corners and backstitching to secure, sew strips to quilt. Press seam allowances towards quilt center. Lay quilt top right side up on ironing board and fold each border end flat back onto itself, right sides together, forming a 45° angle at quilt corner as illustrated. Press to form sharp creases.

2. Fold quilt on diagonal, right sides together. Align border strip raw edges,

border seams at the 1/4" backstitched point, and creases; pin in place. Stitch along the crease, backstitching at 1/4" border seam. Press seam open. With quilt right side up, align 45°-angle line of ruler on seam line to check accuracy. If corner is flat and square, trim excess fabric to 1/4 " seam allowance.
