Planning
Kelly used wonderful plaid and stripe flannels for her baby quilt. She carefully planned the cutting of the white/blue/yellow stripe used for the setting triangles so the stripe would run the length of the quilt top. If you wish to do likewise, cut the two 4" squares with diagonals running in opposite directions (see diagram at right).

Cutting the Fabric
Blue plaid and white solid—cut from each:
... 5 strips 2 1/2" x width of fabric (WOF)
Yellow texture
... *4 strips 2 1/2" x WOF
... 12 squares 5 1/4" x 5 1/4", cut in
half twice diagonally to make 48 quarter-square triangles
Yellow/blue small plaid
... 12 squares 5 1/4" x 5 1/4", cut in
half twice diagonally to make 48 quarter-square triangles
White/blue/yellow stripe
... 6 squares 7 1/2" x 7 1/2", cut in
half twice diagonally to make 24 quarter-square triangles (4 left over—see Step 3)
... 2 squares 4" x 4", cut in half
diagonally to make 4 half-square triangles (see Planning)
Yellow/blue large plaid
... 4 strips 4H? x 46?, cut on lengthwise grain
*Cut first.

Step 1. Sew blue plaid and white solid 2 1/2" x WOF strips together as shown in Diagram I-A. Press seam in direction of arrow. Make 5. Cut 70 segments 2 1/2" each. Referring to Diagram I-B, sew 2 segments together to make Four-patch Block. Make 35.
