Into a Sea of Blue

You Need:
Light blue mottle (background) ... 1 3/8 yds.
Assorted medium to dark prints (sails) ... 1/2 -3/4 yd. total
Assorted brown prints (boats)
... 1/2 -3/4 yd. total
Dark blue texture (sashing, border,
binding) ... 1 5/8 yd.

Backing (piece widthwise) ... 2 7/8 yds.
Batting ... Twin size

Sewing thread
Machine quilting thread


Cut!
Light blue mottle
... 60 squares 2 7/8" x 2 7/8"
... 40 rectangles 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
... 24 strips 2 1/2" x 8 1/2"
Assorted medium to dark prints—cut 20 sets of:
... 2 matching squares 2 7/8" x 2 7/8"

Assorted brown prints—cut 20 matching sets of:
... 1 square 2 7/8" x 2 7/8"
... 1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
Dark blue texture
... *3 strips 2" x 54"
... *2 strips 3" x 54"
... *2 strips 4 1/2" x 45"
*Cut on lengthwise grain.

Sew!
Step 1. On wrong side of light blue mottle 2 7/8" square, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Place light blue square on assorted medium to dark print 2 7/8" square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares (see Diagram I). Make 20 sets of 4 matching pieced squares. Repeat process, using light blue squares with assorted brown print 2 7/8" squares. Make 20 sets of 2 matching pieced squares.
