Beige/pink plaid (blocks, outer border) 1 yd.
White print (blocks) 5/8 yd.
Poinsettia print (blocks) 3/8 yd.
Pink print (blocks) 1 yd.
Green print (inner border, binding) 7/8 yd.

Karen chose a collection of holiday fabrics from RJR Fabrics for her quilt, which was planned as a table topper. It would be equally lovely hanging on the wall or covering a small child after all the gifts are opened.
Cut It
Beige/pink plaid
... 2 strips 5 3/4" x width of fabric (WOF)
... 4 strips 3" x 50", pieced from 5 WOF strips
White print
... *4 strips 1 7/8" x WOF
... 4 strips 2 1/2" x WOF
Poinsettia print
... *2 strips 4 1/2" x WOF
Pink print
... 26 strips 1 7/8" x 8 1/2"
... 24 strips 2 1/2" x 8 1/2"
Green print
... 2 strips 1 1/2" x WOF
... 2 strips 1 1/2" x 45", pieced from 3 WOF strips
*Cut first.
Do It!
1. Referring to Diagram I-A, stitch white print 1 7/8"
x WOF strips to sides of beige/pink plaid 5 3/4" x WOF strip. Make 2. Press in direction of arrows. Cut 13 segments 5 3/4" wide. In same manner (Diagram I-B), sew white print 2 1/2" x WOF strips to sides of 4 1/2" x WOF poinsettia print strip. Make 2 and press. Cut into 12 segments 4 1/2" wide.
2. Stitch pink print 1 7/8" x 8 1/2" strips to sides of beige/pink plaid segment (Diagram II-A) to complete Plaid Block. Make 13. Sew pink print 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" strips to top/bottom of poinsettia segment (Diagram II-B) to complete Poinsettia Block. Make 12.
3. Referring to Assembly Diagram, stitch 5 rows alternating Plaid and Poinsettia Blocks. Sew rows together. Stitch green print 1 1/2" x WOF strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom. Sew remaining green print strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch beige/pink plaid 3" x 50" strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom. Sew remaining beige/pink plaid strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides.

4. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Karen hand quilted vertical and horizontal lines throughout the quilt top resulting in a 3" square in the block centers. Bind with green print fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
